Works Great!

I bought these to attach to my Unaka gear co 8020 roof rack. Took a slight bit of grinding so they would fit in the channel but work awesome! Provides an awesome mounting point for my Moon Shade!

Hi Mackenzie! Thanks so much for letting us know about the adjustments needed to make these anchors work well for you. We love the photos!

Anchors and Shade

The anchors make it much easier to setup for me and can be left on the van. The Moon shade itself is awesome.

Just barely more than finger tight and I stripped out one of the receivers.

Sorinter Rail Anchors

These anchors are absolute junk. I stripped out the threads in the plate with my hands. I tried to still use them, despite knowing better, only to have them fail in a light breeze turning my Moonshade XL into a kite. The rest of the system seems to be top notch.

Great attachment point for moon shade.

Easy to install and easy to use. Left attached to roof rail and still very incognito. So far they are holding up very well and are firmly attached.

Easy to install

Great option for the sprinter van with the factory rail system. I did have to move my solar panels a little forward since they were installed all the way back on the rails but the Sprinter rail anchors went in easy and are very low profile to help with my “stealthy camping”. Great and simple idea.

not compatible with Alu-Cab & cheaper elsewhere

search "M6 Ring Eye Bolt" and "M6 T-Nut" there's plenty of sizes and shapes available (mainly for T-Slot framing)

These are nice and light compared to other rail anchors

So far I've been very happy with them. Easy to install and move, haven't come loose or broken in the few months since I got them.

Rings nice, T nut is cheese

The rings is a nice cast stainless ring with M6 threads. It's nice the T nuts are the drop in kind, but they are 5mm thick aluminum with easily stripped threads. Thicker material would really help, but then they couldn't be simply laser cut. If you're laser cutting the holes, they should be cut undersized, chased with a drill, and form tapped. A jam nut would be nice to lock things at the angle you want.

Kind of disappointed with the engagement in rails on Sprinter van. Not very positive lock in. Need it some shaving of the bottom nut.

Great idea, stripped easily

I have a ford transit but I built my own 80/20 roof rack and these fit perfectly. I bought two, unfortunately one of the two back pieces stripped out when installing. Luckily they were the same thread as my 80/20 components and I had one on hand.

May have been a one off issue as my other one worked fine. I didn’t have time to request a replacement, we were hitting the road.

Needs improvement

Good idea for installing a Moonshade on a roof rack but one anchor stripped on first install. The metal is too soft.

Does the job but concerns

This attachment solution is definitely better than the magnets and suction cups for a sprinter with roof rails. However, the nut is not a nylock nut or a locking nut so I am worried of it unloosening with time.

Thank you for your review and feedback, Alexander. If you're concerned about the nut loosening over time, we would recommend adding something like an appropriate Loctite or similar product to the nut and bolt. This should help reduce the likelihood of unwanted loosening of the anchor. Please email us at support@moonfab.com if we can be of additional help. Thank you!

Failed-stripped

I purchased 2 sets of these for our 22 Sprinter 170 so that I could have connection points for the moon wall. When attempting to install them today, one completely failed and would not tighten, in the rail or out of the rail. It feels like the threads stripped. It never tightened from the beginning, so I did not over-tighten it.
Another anchor is suspect as it took several attempts to get it tightened.
I am now concerned that I can’t rely on these anchors.

Hi Rhonda, I'm sorry to see your Sprinter Anchors failed. These are likely defective and do not represent our typical quality. We have sold hundreds of these anchors that are still in service. We will be in contact shortly to assist you. You can email support@moonfab.com for help if you don't see a message from us. Thank you.

Aluminum T-slot nut was easy to strip.

The stainless eyebolt and washer are very nice. The aluminum t-slot nut is a little soft. I stripped the threads in one out trying to “clock” the eyebolt to the desired position.

Would be nice if the nut was also stainless, or if it had a stainless threaded insert to make it more robust.

Hi Peter, thank you for your review and feedback. I just emailed you so we can provide some support. Looking forward to assisting.

Sprinter Anchor

I received the order, but very disappointed. Applying very little torque when installing these secure rings. The plate or nut strips out very easily, because it is made of aluminum (soft material). It should be made of steel, which allow the installer to positively secure the rings.

Thank you,
Dave

Perfect fit

Easy peasy. Took more time getting out the ladder that it did to put these on the van. This is our second set si that we can put the shade on either side and the back of our sprinter van!

Tend to loosen in the wind. Loctite is a must. Unless you are tall or have a ladder, difficult to reach to for clipping the Moonshade in place.

Happy Camper

Hi, I just tried the Moonfab awning on the Camino del Diablo here in southern AZ. Put it up in windy conditions (despite your advice) and it did better than expected. I have a high top Sprinter. It is hard to see the rail anchors, let alone attach a carabiner to them. I was unable to attach via the attach-the-line-and-pull method. Had to jump up onto the tire and do it from there. Maybe without the wind I could have stood further back and attached it sucessfully. Overall I am impressed with the quality of the materials. I wanted an awning in the event of getting caught out in really hot conditions and I did not want something permanently attached to the van. Your product works great for this. Overall very happy.

I also purchased the magnets as a 1) back up to the rail attachments 2) to be able to attach the awning to the rear of the van and 3) to be able to use it on our Tacoma.
